Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado started using QDM more than a year ago. The QDM is controlled via Ethernet connection from six prescription workstations.
“Automation in pharmacies is a big deal, especially in hospitals,” says Larry Allen, Ph.D., the Pharmacy Tech academic coordinator at Arapahoe Community College.
“The future of pharmacy is automation,” Allen adds. “The premise is to provide students the knowledge base to meet the demands of the new technology.”
The QDM automatically counts high volume prescriptions with pinpoint accuracy. Doing this through automation means one less task for the pharmacy staff, giving the staff more time to spend consulting patients.
Arapahoe Community College said the decision to go with QS/1’s Automated Drug Dispensing Machine was easy.
“The QDM was modular, had a small footprint, could be easily interfaced to our existing QS/1 workstations, and was affordable,” says Allen.
