The J M Smith Corporation developed out of the vision of one family and the hardwork and dedication of many others. In 1925, James M. Smith, Sr. opened a small pharmacy in Asheville, North Carolina. Over the next two decades, Smith established 16 other pharmacies throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. In the 1940’s Smith sold his interest in all the stores to establish Smith Drug Company in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Smith’s son, James M. Smith, Jr. (Jim) led the company’s expansion into data processing and computer services. His interest in the health care business along with his extensive knowledge of computers, layed the groundwork for what would become one of the most successful privately held corporations in South Carolina.
Today, J M Smith Corporation is comprised of 4 separate companies.
Smith Drug Company, the first founded business in the J M Smith Corporation, is listed among one of the top 10 wholesale drug companies in the United States. Supplying independent, locally owned pharmacies with pharmaceutical products, health and beauty aids and home medical equipment throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Florida and Texas.

QS/1 was developed with one simple focus in mind. Jim Smith believed that pharmacists needed a computer system to help manage their practice. He and several other J M Smith programmers set out to accomplish this task. Years later, QS/1 remains at the forefront of technology developed for the health care industry. Over 500 dedicated employees manage development, support and marketing for all products including NRx, SystemOne, Point-of-Sale, PrimeCare, CornerDrugstore.com, IVR and QDM, the QS/1 Dispensing System.
Smith Premier Services, founded in 1997, provides a full range of prescription-related services which include: disease management, compliance programs, insurance claim adjudication and analysis, as well as drug utilization reviews for employers and insurance carriers.
Established as J M Smith Corporation’s newest company in 2004,
Integral Solutions Group is a result of a merger between three similar businesses: Integral Technical Services, QS/1 Network Solutions Group and Smith Data Processing Forms and Supplies. Integral Solutions Group provides network and cabling services to businesses, government offices and school systems as well as medical forms and supplies to customers such as labels for medicine vials and government forms.
