Insight - Fall 2020

Fall 2020 | 21 QS/1 Podcast The statistics about how many businesses were still running Windows 7 two months before the scheduled sunset date worried us. We recognized potential vulnerabilities if pharmacies stayed on the operating system after support for it ended. At the 2019 Customer Conference, we heard Bruce Kneeland’s advice to pharmacies about how to better market themselves against big- box chains. The room was packed with pharmacists taking in every word and feverishly jotting down notes as Bruce spoke. A few hours after his session, Bruce went on QCompass to share his advice with pharmacists who couldn’t attend. One of our most popular episodes was on the NCPDP SCRIPT Standard v2017071. QS/1’s Crystal Ratliff, vendor relations product manager, shared information about the transition from SCRIPT Standard 10.6 that took place on January 1, 2020. There were a lot of questions about the new ePrescribing standard and what it meant for pharmacy. While pharmacies only had to upgrade to Service Pack 19.1.30 to be compliant with the new transmission standard, it was important to understand the new fields of data that were being transmitted. Then, we found ourselves facing COVID-19 and working remotely, but QCompass never missed a beat. From a home studio, we use technologies that many of you now use to meet and exchange ideas. Thankfully, we have been able to connect and record podcasts during this critical time in healthcare. It has never been more important to ensure pharmacies have the information to adapt to new workflows. Pharmacies are truly on the frontline of the pandemic, making sure patients get their prescription medications as well as any over-the-counter drugs they need. Many pharmacies went from having patients visit the store to adapting to curbside and delivery services. QS/1 offers a variety of solutions in its pharmacy management systems. QCompass highlighted the features and services available to pharmacies to help them continue to serve their communities while maintaining social distancing. In just a few months, we will begin season three of QCompass . We hope you’re taking the time to tune in. In the car, behind the counter, or even when you are working out, QCompass is a quick listen that keeps you informed on what’s happening within the community pharmacy industry. We are truly helping you chart a course to community pharmacy success. Editor’s Note: We welcome your feedback. Let us know what topics are important to you. In February 2019, we released an inaugural episode of the podcast – discussing the breakout session at the PDS Super Conference. Ed Vess, R.Ph., QS/1 director of professional pharmacy affairs, met the host of QCompass in what can charitably be described as a glorified closet on the fifth floor of QS/1’s headquarters. On a four-foot table were two laptops, an audio mixer with cables stretching across, and notes for the questioner. Two condenser microphones were on stands positioned in front of two chairs. As soon as the record button was pressed, the exchange began. The result of that conversation turned into the first 20 minutes of QCompass , sharing important information with QS/1 customers who did not make it to the conference. That’s been the goal of QCompass since the first episode: to share important news and information to help community pharmacies thrive. And to do so in a way that allows pharmacists and pharmacy staff to get the news they need no matter where they are. Since the launch, we’ve tackled many topics. When Microsoft ® moved into the final phases of ending support for Windows ® 7, we devoted an episode to the importance of upgrading to a newer operating system.
