INSIGHT - Summer 2020

Summer 2020 | 15 Unified search was invented to provide more accurate matches with less characters. In the previous example, you must only type “ mich gre” to get to that list. Furthermore, since we are often looking for prescriptions, you can then start typing the medication name to further reduce the list to patients who match “ mich gre” and “tyl.” We first introduced this technology in DocuTrack ®. It will be in the next version of QDM, and soon, the unified search experience will be available across many of our product solutions. SMART on FHIR If you’re not familiar with Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR), it is a fast-growing data exchange format in healthcare. It allows data sharing across vendors and promises a new level of interoperability. But, even with data formats defined, we need a vehicle to communicate data to other systems. More importantly, there must be a way to authorize data sharing between systems. Most interfaces exchange data and secure it using encryption but do not go the extra step of authorizing the interface by requiring the equivalent of a username and password. Substitutable Medical Applications and Reusable Technologies (SMART) brings an added level of security. Many of you may be cringing since additional security tends to mean enhanced complexity and more steps to complete tasks, but this is one technology that will help make your life more simple. You most likely use a variant of this technology already and do not realize it. The technology behind SMART is called OAuth2. It is used by sites like Twitter, Google, and Facebook to allow other applications to access your data with your permission. For example, has there been an instance where an application wanted access to your Google Contacts or Photos and you were presented with a dialog prompt asking for your permission and then requiring you to log on to Google? Once you logged in, the application could access your data stored in Google. And the great thing about this technology is even if you change your password in either application, you don’t have to reconnect them by logging in again after the password change. While this is great for phone and web applications, there is a wealth of applicability in the modern pharmacy. If an outside provider needs access to data in your pharmacy system, for example, the ability to look up the status of a prescription or drug cost from within their EHR application, the link could be created between the EHR application and the pharmacy system. Once connected, the outside provider doesn’t have to logon a second time to access your system. Furthermore, this gives the pharmacy the ability to lock down what data users may access rather than trusting an external vendor’s application to do so. We’re excited to announce that Redsail Technologies, QS/1’s parent company, has completed its first OAuth2 implementation. Initially, it will be used for accessing SMS services with mobile Rx ® , which gives customers prescription refill power in the palm of their hands. This will allow us to validate patients without the high cost and complexity of Idology. Renewed Efforts to Ensure You Work Smarter Redsail Technologies is energized in its mission to help customers reimagine what’s possible for their pharmacy. With unified search capabilities and SMART on FHIR, we’re charting a path to success, and we’re not stopping there. Other innovation is in the works. Stay tuned. Works for You
