INSIGHT - Summer 2020

Summer 2020 | 20 SCRIPT 2017071 Jessica Swanger, Product Analyst Since the New SCRIPT Standard v2017071 was mandated for January 1, 2020, hopefully you’ve had the opportunity to update to Service Pack 19.1.30m. Make sure you have enabled your store for New SCRIPT. Go to Store Control > Store Level Options > Rx Filling and check the option for New Script (2017071) Format . Enabling this option does take a couple minutes, so you may want to perform this function before your pharmacy opens or after it closes to avoid disruptions. Your pharmacy needs to be enabled for New SCRIPT not only for CMS compliancy, but also to transact with the new message types: RxChangeRequest, RxFill, and NewRxRequest. RxChangeRequest and RxFill messages are available for use in Service Pack 30 and higher. The option to request a NewRx is available in Service Pack 31. If you are on Service Pack 31 or higher and have enabled New SCRIPT 2017071, you will receive notification in the coming weeks to enable the NewRxRequest message type with Surescripts. Good News Currently, RxChangeRequest and NewRxRequest messages are FREE of charge. If you are transacting with New SCRIPT v2017071, these two message types are included and enabled automatically with Surescripts ® . How to Generate an RxChangeRequest There are three places inside your pharmacy management system where you can generate an RxChangeRequest: y NewRx Mail queue y Claim Rejection Detail y Rx Summary > Print > RxChange Request Tips for Using RxChangeRequest Here are some RxChange best practices as outlined by NCPDP: y If the RxChange for Therapeutic Interchange or Generic Substitution is approved, this replaces the original prescription. The old prescription becomes inactive for this approval. However, if the RxChange for Prior Authorization is approved, the original prescription can still be used. y An RxChange denial does not make the prescription invalid or stop therapy. If the prescriber wishes to stop therapy, the prescriber should notify the pharmacy either by sending a cancel message for the Rx or using other means. If the prescriber denies the RxChangeRequest, the pharmacy should continue to dispense the originally prescribed medication or reach out to the prescriber if further discussion is needed. y If a pharmacy dispenses the original prescription following the submission of an RxChangeRequest and before the prescriber responds with an RxChangeRequest Approval, the pharmacy records would be inconsistent with the prescriber’s records. The pharmacy just uses traditional means to contact the prescriber New SCRIPT Version 2017071 in Full Swing
